Leona Taylor, 93, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Leona Anna Taylor, 93, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes will officiate. Leona died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Leona Anna (Babey) Taylor was born on Sept. 28, 1918, to John and Anna (Marinek) Babey in Lakefield. She grew up in the Hollandale and Albert Lea area. Leona graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1936. She continued her education at a business school and was employed at Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea and later in Milwaukee at American Credit Indemnity Co. as a secretary. On Dec. 25, 1941, Leona was united in marriage to Darrell Taylor in Hollandale. Leona used to be the family secretary also, keeping everyone in touch with letters, cards, calls etc. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hollandale and a past member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved music and dancing and had a genuine love for animals. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (David) Lehman of Newton, N.C.; sisters, Alice Fuhr of Hollandale, and Irene Wagner of Portsmouth, Va.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Babey of Burnsville; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; infant daughter, Darla; sisters, Evelyn (Spencer) Olson and Julia (Cornelius) Slegh; and brothers, John Babey and Robert (Danice) Babey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Home or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Hollandale.
