Freemond Madson VFW

The Freemond Madson Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 447 met May 14 at the American Legion Hall.

Before the regular meeting the post members joined the auxiliary for the annual memorial service conducted by Chaplain Ruby Fredrickson. Fifteen Auxiliary members and 21 Post members were named for remembrance with white flowers and greens place on the memorial alter in their honor.

The regular meetings were then conducted with the auxiliary meeting led by President Eunice Hatleli and Post Senior Vice Commander Jim Hockenson. The charter was draped for Auxiliary Past President Ida Midenstein and Past District President Eleanor Worke.

The group discussed Memorial Day plan for ceremonies at cemeteries and flag raising at Fountain Lake Park.

Beverly Boone and Ruby Fredrickson attended the May 5 district annual meeting. They brought back citations for the auxiliary for youth activities excellence in reporting and honorable mention for the Patriotic Art Contest entry. Marilyn Danielson, chairwoman, was given a Gerbera daisy in appreciation for her work with youth activities, and Fredrickson received a Gerbera daisy for her publicity work.

The VFW Department Convention will be June 21-24 at the Rochester Kahler Grand Hotel. State President Debbie Tweet, Auxiliary 1296 Bloomington, will conduct the meeting.

The National Convention will be July 21-25 in Reno, Nev.

The installation of the No. 447 Auxiliary officers concluded the evening.

Lynda Vermadahl and Betty Jones served lunch. Marcia Petersen won the door prize.

The next meeting will be at the American Legion Club at 7 p.m. Monday.
