Wartburg College’s Castle Singers performed in six countries on their international tour in May, bringing jazz to a church where Johann Sebastian Bach was musical director.

Randene Davis, of Glenville, a junior and alto, daughter of Lance and Sharon Davis, is one of the 33-member vocal jazz ensemble that performed in Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic and France during the college’s one-month May term.

Under the direction of professor of music Jane Andrews and accompanied by a rhythm section, the Castle Singers specialize in all types of vocal jazz music, from swing and blues to Latin and cool — and they have added sacred music to their repertoire.
