BEMIDJI — Itasca State Park has fully re-opened after cleanup from windstorms earlier this week.

One of Minnesota’s most popular parks suffered significant damage, with high winds toppling trees and blocking roads at the park and nearby LaSalle Lake State Recreation Area. The rec area is still closed.

Officials don’t yet have an estimate for how many trees were downed in the state park. But they say damage to park structures appears minimal.

Camping and lodging reservations are being honored with the exception of one cabin still being checked out for damage. Hikers are advised to be cautious around any remaining downed snags and debris.
