Local DFLer to be national delegate

Art Anderson of the Freeborn County DFL Party has been elected as a national delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., slated to happen in early September.

He was selected in April at the 1st District convention in Winona.

The last Freeborn County Democrat sent to the national convention as a delegate was Marv Wangen in 1964. He attended the convention in Atlantic City, N.J., when Lyndon Johnson was nominated.

Anderson’s wife, Rose, is the alternate. Their son is getting married Sept. 1, and the convention begins Sept. 2. Art served as the Freeborn County DFL Party chairman for 25 years, and Rose was the vice chairwoman for 23 years. She attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo., in August 2008. He was an elector for the 1st District in the Electoral College vote in January 2009.
