ST. PAUL — A St. Paul man is charged in the death of a 16-year-old girl who was struck by a sport utility vehicle while she was waiting outside Harding High School.

The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office charged 50-year-old Carlos Viveros-Colorado with one count of criminal vehicular homicide Friday in the death of Clarisse Grime.

The criminal complaint says that on Thursday afternoon, Viveros-Colorado was driving an SUV at excessive speeds when he hit a fire hydrant, jumped the curb and rolled down an embankment, striking Grime and her boyfriend.

The boyfriend wasn’t seriously injured. Both teens had finished summer school classes and were waiting in the shade for a bus.

Viveros-Colorado is in custody and will likely get a court-appointed attorney Monday. The complaints says he told police his legs went numb.
