Kaphers was organized and knew how to motivate athletes to compete at their best ability.

Under Kaphers’ leadership, Albert Lea won many championships, including state and Big 9 championships. He was also named the Minnesota Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1978.

Kaphers will join seven others at the Saturday event.

The meal and ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Prior to the induction there will be a four-person best shot golf tournament at 10:30 a.m. and a silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The guest speaker of the evening will be Eric Nyquist, a 1990 graduate of ALHS.

All proceeds from the Hall of Fame are donated to ALHS to reduce participation fees for high school athletes.

To register for the banquet or golf tournament visit or stop by Tiger City Sports, Motor Inn Co., KATE Radio or the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Tribune had a brief introduction each day up to the banquet for each inductee.
