South Central Chapter to host Festival of Farms

The South Central Chapter, a chapter of Sustainable Farm Association-MN devoted to promoting sustainable alternatives for agriculture, will be having its annual Festival of Farms on Saturday. This year the tours will be hosted by two of Austin area’s sustainable farms – MyBackAchers and Cedar River Horse Logging.

The South Central Chapter is hosting an Alternative farm day from MyBackAchers.com and Cedar River Horse Logging, at 50277 130th St., Lyle.

This year there is something for everyone. Starting at 10 a.m., the farms will be hosting day long demonstrations of alternative energy on the farm including hydroelectric power from a small creek, draft horse logging and wood efficiency.

Also, as an alternative livestock, experts will have a demonstration on raising freshwater lobster and shrimp-size crayfish.

Other events include a discussion of wind power, alcohol as a fuel discussion and handouts. Alternative crops for bio-fuels and demo of Fodder-Feeding system for low energy and reduced feed costs.

Lunch will be served and a donation is requested.

This event is free to SFA members. This is a rain or shine event. Please dress for the weather.
