Meet Dave Sime
Name: Dave Sime
Age: 49
Livelihood: golf course superintendent, Oak View Golf Course, Freeborn
City of residence: Alden
For how long: 9 years
Tell us about your family: My wife of 28 years, Darcy, and sons: Matt, 28 (who got me involved in disc golf) and Josh, 22
Where do you volunteer and how long have you volunteered there: Flying Lea Disc Golf Club for just over one year. I have made benches for the disc golf course, cleaned up trash when needed, and have spent over 150 hours working on the new course being built at Bancroft Bay.
Why do you volunteer? I enjoy seeing the results of my hard work, especially seeing people from young to old using the course. Disc golf is a sport that anyone can play as it costs very little, and it gets people outside getting exercise. Helping provide an environment that encourages a healthy pastime is very rewarding.
What was the last book you read? I love to read and will read anything from romance to science fiction and everything in between. The last book I read was called “Wishing For a Snow Day” – stories from the 1860s through the 1960s about pioneer family life.
What are your hobbies? I enjoy playing disc golf, reading, photography and travel.
What’s your favorite movie? “Star Wars.”
