DULUTH — The U.S. Forest Service is lifting campfire restrictions in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness because of cooler temperatures and shorter days.

Campfires and use of charcoal and wood-burning camp stoves are now allowed at all hours of the day.

Forest managers have also reopened an area along the Canadian border and around Knife Lake. The area was closed earlier this month while a fire was burning on the Canadian side. Fire crews will continue to monitor the area.
