Twenty-seven kids from the Albert Lea girls’ youth hockey program, Albert Lea girls’ varsity hockey team and their friends participated in a skate around Fountain Lake on Friday night. The skate was part of an effort to recruit new players to the girls’ youth hockey program. Leaving from the Brookside Boathouse, the participants skated to Lakeside Cafe to have an ice cream cone. Two other skates are scheduled, both beginning at 6 p.m. One will be Friday and the other will be Sept. 21. The skate is open to girls of any age and skating ability and inline skates are available for use. The girls’ youth coach, Ed Pomerson, said the team would like to thank Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen for sponsoring the event and providing T-shirts.
