Richard Pumper, 84, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Richard “Dick” Emil Pumper will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.

Richard died Sept. 6, 2012, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea at the age of 84.

Richard was born on Sept. 1, 1928, to Josephine and Emil Pumper in Milwaukee, Wis. He graduated from Faribault High School in 1946 before serving in the Marine Corps for one year.

On Sept. 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Theresa Pemrick at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Together they settled in Albert Lea to raise one daughter and three sons.

Richard began working for Wilson & Co. in 1947 in Faribault. In 1949 he transferred to Albert Lea and retired 43 years later.

An active member of the Eagles Club, Richard served as secretary for more than 49 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and a faithful member of St. Theodore Catholic Church.

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Theresa Pumper; daughter Julie (Dennis) Michaelis of Farmington; sons, Steve (Jean) Pumper of Plano, Texas, and Scott Pumper of Albert Lea; grandchildren Jill Michaelis, and Zachary and Nicholas Pumper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Wolters and Joyce Piepho; son, Tom Pumper; and grandson Ryan Michaelis.

Richard will be remembered as loving sports, visiting over coffee and sweets and negotiating a good bargain. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and we will treasure the moments we shared and hold his memory dear.
