The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team defeated Rochester John Marshall on Thursday 1-0.

Scoring for the Tigers was senior Megan Bos with an assist from Anna Anderson. The goal marked Bos’ first ever goal in her entire soccer career, from youth age to high school.

Rick Barnhill, the Tigers’ head coach, said it took several players including Alex Jahnke, Lindsey Stewart, Holly Wichmann, Sarah Savelkoul, Gretta Johnson, Katie Williamson, Anderson, Hanna DeVries, Becca Dup and Megan Kortan to pull the team to its win.

The win was a back-t0-back shutout for DeVries, the Tigers’ keeper.

The first shutout came earlier this week in Winona as the Tigers won on the road 1-0 with a goal by Dup.

“That game and this game allowed us a 500 record, 7-7-2,” Barnhill said. “It’s been a journey to get that 500 mark after all we’ve been through this year. To play 500 while missing the top player and returning leading scorer, Brooke Hanson, this has been an extreme achievement.”
