Published 6:20 pm Saturday, October 20, 2012

Registration for the Learn to Skate program, offering lessons for figure skaters and hockey players at the basic skills level, will be Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea City Arena. Coaches will be on hand to answer questions.

If parents are unable to register at this time they may fill out registration forms, available at the arena, and leave them in the podium in the lobby.

The program is a joint effort of the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department and the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club. It offers an introduction to skating to younger students as well as teaches the blade skills needed for hockey.

The fee is $80 per skater and includes skate rental from the arena. The program will consist of 10 lessons between November and March, with optional participation in the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club show on March 23-24.

Skating is a sport that teaches several physical skills, including balance, coordination, endurance and flexibility. It also teaches several life skills such as confidence and poise.
