St. Cloud St. downs Mankato

ST. CLOUD (AP) — Ben Hanowski scored two goals in the first period to lead St. Cloud State to a 5-1 win over Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.

Nic Dowd added another goal as the Huskies (3-2-0, 1-0-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period.

MSUM (2-1-2, 0-1-0) was outshot 11-3 in the first period, but actually outshot the Huskies 22-17 the rest of the way. But St. Cloud State goalie Ryan Faragher was up to the task, stopping 24 shots and allowing only Evan Mosey’s goal at 8:53 of the third period.

Kalle Kossila and Drew LeBlanc added St. Cloud State goals. LeBlanc also assisted on three goals.

MSUM goalie Phil Cook had 23 saves.
