COON RAPIDS — Police and the Anoka-Hennepin School District said they’re investigating a group of middle school students who took a fight to Facebook that escalated with taunts of suicide.
Police said the online bullying began after female students from Blaine and Coon Rapids argued during a recent football game. Authorities said the girls took the fight online to Facebook and someone posted a message urging the Coon Rapids girls to kill themselves. Coon Rapids Capt. John Hattstrom said police take the threats very seriously.
Investigators said the suicide posts came from a fake Facebook account and they’re still trying to track down who’s behind it.
The district called police after a Northdale Middle School staff member was told about the cyber bullying.
Earlier this year, the district agreed to be more proactive about bullying after settling a lawsuit over gender-based harassment.
