ANOKA — An Anoka County judge wants to be able to carry a gun into the courthouse, although the sheriff’s office is asking that he trust the court’s security measures.

He’s been asking colleagues and bosses whether he’d be allowed to be armed.

Earlier this year, Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill allowing prosecutors to carry a concealed weapon if they get approval from a judge and their county attorney. But judges also aren’t allowed to have weapons without approval, according to a 2003 court order.

Sheriff’s Cmdr. Paul Sommer said the sheriff’s office hasn’t decided whether to approve Dehen’s request. But he said the courthouse already provides adequate security, so Dehen shouldn’t need his own weapon.
