50 years ago – 1962
• The Albert Lea High School gymnastic team won a triangular meet in Class C. Keith Goodmanson of the Tigers won the All Around Class and placed first in tumbling and the parallel bars. Mike Matthies placed second on the horse for Albert Lea.
• In Middle Eight Conference basketball Freeborn High School defeated Winnebago 57-53. Ron Schultz scored 16 points, Les Honstad had 15 and Roger Hanson scored 13 for the Yeomen.
• ALHS graduate Chuck Coonradt lettered in football at Sioux Falls College. He was a fullback on offense and a linebacker on defense.
• Don Jensen scored 10 points for the Ellendale Raiders in their 36-33 basketball win over Morristown.
25 years ago – 1987
• Steve Bangh scored 18 points, Steve Hagen scored 12 points, Matt Sullivan scored 12 points and Alan Christopherson scored 11 for ALHS in its 64-55 basketball victory over Fairmont.
• The Wells-Easton boys’ basketball team remained undefeated at 3-0 with a 61-43 win over Austin Pacelli. Scott Heggen scored 15 points and B.J. Fisher scored 12 for the Wildcats.
• Matt Potter scored 33 points for the Alden-Conger-Freeborn basketball team in its 59-48 win over Chatfield.
• Troy Janka scored 35 points and Tomm Richards added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Ellendale-Geneva in its 68-62 victory over Glenville-Emmons. Mike Heideman led G-E with 18 points.
10 years ago – 2002
• The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated New Ulm 48-30 for its first win of the year. Amy Ravenhorst scored 12 points and Amber Edwards had 11 rebounds for Albert Lea.
• The ALHS girls’ hockey team scored a 7-3 victory against Rochester Mayo. Laura Hillman scored five goals for Albert Lea.
• Zak Tracey scored 25 points and Jim Tappe added 16 for New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva in its 54-40 won over Alden-Conger. Scott Martinson had 14 points and Brett Penning 10 for A-C.
• Angie Wichmann scored 14 points to lead the Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team to a 48-45 over Granada-Huntley-East Chain.
