Chris Cook will be eased back into action

(AP) — It appears likely that cornerback Chris Cook will be ready to come off injured reserve in time for the Vikings’ game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Dec. 23, but defensive coordinator Alan Williams isn’t necessarily looking at him as a one-stop solution to stop receiver Andre Johnson.
Cook practiced again Thursday, Dec. 20, and coach Leslie Frazier said the cornerback, who has been out with a broken arm since Oct. 25, could play in the Vikings’ nickel packages Sunday. He covered Lions receiver Calvin Johnson early this season, but even then, the Vikings weren’t asking Cook to shadow the all-pro receiver all over the field.
They certainly won’t be looking for that if Cook indeed is ready to return Sunday.
“I think guys probably do best when they’re locked into the techniques that they’re playing,” Williams said. “They’re used to going one-on-one on one side; they’re used to rerouting (receivers) and playing the side. I’m usually more concerned with what we do and making sure that we take care of ourselves, rather than short-changing ourselves based on what another team is doing.”
