The Minnesota Twins increased their available 40-man roster spots to three on Friday, Nov. 30, outrighting right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra to Class AAA Rochester.

Guerra, the last remaining piece of the deal that sent Johan Santana to the New York Mets, has been invited to major league camp.

Denard Span was taken off the roster Thursday when he was traded to Washington for pitching prospect Alex Meyer.

The Twins now have 37 players on the 40-man roster, giving some opportunities for general manager Terry Ryan and his staff as they prepare for the winter meetings Monday through Thursday in Nashville.

The Twins also invited first baseman Jeff Clement to major league camp after he agreed to a minor league deal. The No. 3 pick in the 2005 amateur draft, Clement hit .136 (3 for 22) with an RBI in 23 games with Pittsburgh last season and has spent most of the past few years at Class AAA.

“His bat has some life in it,” Ryan said. “There’s a little power there.”
