Freeborn Legion Auxiliary

The Freeborn American Legion Auxiliary hosted a community coffee time on Nov. 17. This was at the Freeborn American Legion hall, and the monthly meeting followed. The group was honored to have District President Karen Reiss attend. The meeting was called to order by President Sandy Anderson. The pledges were recited, and Anderson read a Thanksgiving prayer. The secretary and treasurer reports were given and approved. Anderson presented bills to be paid. It was motioned and seconded to donate to the Freeborn hospice program in honor of the deceased members of the auxiliary.

Old business was next; Anderson announced that the Veterans Day cards were mailed before Veterans Day. She also stated that the Christmas cards had been sent to the department office for distribution at the veterans hospital and the income taxes had been filed.

Discussion was held concerning the community coffee time and it was decided that we will host this event again next year. The next sewing date for the Community Sewing Group will be Jan. 3, 2013, at the Freeborn Legion hall. The sewing will follow the Bone Builders exercise group and potluck will follow sewing. All are welcome to attend. It was announced that heart pillows, neck pillows, knitted slippers and comfort kits had been sent up to the veterans hospital.

Santa will be arriving at the Freeborn Legion hall at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 2. Santa is sponsored by the Freeborn Boosters. During Santa’s visit the auxiliary will be serving coffee and cookies. After Santa departs, the hospice tree lighting ceremony will take place at approximately 4:30 p.m. The names will be read inside the Legion hall, and the tree will be lit across the street in the hospice garden. Potluck will follow at around 5 p.m. and then bingo will start at approximately 6 or 6:30 following the potluck.

The auxiliary sponsored soup and pie event will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19, 2013. The soups will be chili, chicken noodle and vegetable beef and homemade pies will be the dessert. The group has received notice that the department president will attend. As the group does not meet in December, the next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 19, 2013. With no other business, meeting was adjourned.
