Slain officer to be laid to rest

COLLEGEVILLE — A 31-year-old Cold Spring police officer who was known as a hometown boy and the department jokester will be laid to rest today.

Tom “Tommy” Decker was killed Thursday in the line of duty. He was shot after he was called to check on a man’s welfare. No charges have been filed in his death.

Up to 2,000 officers from around the country could attend Decker’s funeral at St. John’s Abbey and University Church in Collegeville. After the service, a procession will escort his casket through the community he served, and to St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery in Luxemburg, where he will be buried.

Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered that flags at state and federal buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset today in Decker’s honor.

Decker had four children.
