Community Sew Days went well

Thanks again!

The two Community Sew Days we had in 2012 were terrific! We came together as a community and made 30 quilts that were given back to Albert Lea residents during the Rock the Block event that was held during the local Shinefest Week. We also gave 34 quilts to Minnesota Teen Challenge — they were thrilled! Fifty-four dresses were given to an orphanage in Jamaica, and 52 personal care bags were sewn and filled — 42 were given to a shelter in Minneapolis and 10 were given locally to the Crime Victim’s Crisis Center. Thirty-one adult food cover-ups were also sewn and given to St. John’s Lutheran Home. In addition, baby bibs and aprons were completed and sent to an orphanage in Bogota, Colombia.

We are looking forward to our next Sew Day which will again be held at the Senior Center in the Skyline Mall on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You are welcome to come for the whole day or for as long as you are able. Kits and supplies for each project are available when you arrive. You only need to bring your sewing machine, scissors, sack lunch and other notions needed for sewing. Beverages will be provided.

We are so thankful to live in such a generous community! Local businesses and individuals have donated many, many items to ensure that we have plenty of fabric for the quilts, dresses and personal care items for the care bags. Monetary donations have been appreciated greatly. On top of that, there are two groups of women from local churches that have spent hours cutting fabric and putting kits together for this event. You know who you are — can’t thank you enough! Thanks also to everyone who has shown up at these events and given of their time and talents to sew as much as they can and have even taken home items to complete. If you have any questions about any of this, please call me at 507-383-8977.

Here is an excerpt from a thank you note we received. “These quilts are the most beautiful I have received here so far. We are going to have great fun gifting these. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for thinking of us and for gifting us with such a great blessing. We pray God opens heaven onto the lives of each of you involved. All our love and thanks to you!”

We just can’t use the word “thanks” enough to everyone who has made these days possible.

We look forward to seeing you in April.
