Memorial services for Darrell Lowell Christensen of Albert Lea, are pending with Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Darrell passed away on Jan. 5, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea after a long battle with many medical issues.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1949, to Harvey L. and Alice C. (Thompson) Christensen. Darrell attended public school in Hartland and New Richland. He served in the U.S. Army and took part in a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Darrell moved to Colorado after the service and married the love of his life, Carmen. He was an avid outdoors man, enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He had a love for football, especially his Denver Broncos. When his health deteriorated he enjoyed watching the football games with his brothers and sister-in-law. They had fun betting on the games.
Darrell is survived by his sister Nancy (Donnie) Sickels of Albert Lea; brothers Mark Christensen of Washington, Lee (Diane) Christensen of New Richland, Scott Christensen of New Richland, Jr. Johnson of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carmen; sister Connie Monson; and his grandparents. He will be forever in our hearts!
The family would like to give special thanks to the dialysis nurses for all their care and compassion. Also to the radiation unit at the Mayo Clinic Health System and especially to the emergency room staff on duty when he died.
