Irene Luella (Reistad) Pietan, 95, of Mankato, formerly of Wells, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Laurel’s Edge Assisted Living in Mankato. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Rev. Kathy Fullarton will officiate and interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Irene was born March 22, 1917, at the family home in Hartland Township, the daughter of Tosten and Inga (Madson) Reistad. She graduated in 1932 from Ellendale. Irene was united in marriage to Ervin W. Pietan on July 13, 1952, at the First Lutheran Church of Ellendale. Most of their married life was spent in Wells where Irene worked as a clerk for Schulenberg Grocery Store and as a teller at the Security Bank in Wells until her retirement. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Irene was a wonderful cook, loved to bake, garden and play cards. She and Ervin traveled often out West.
Irene is survived by two step-sons, Jerry (Mary) Pietan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jim (Kim) Pietan of Nicollet; daughter-in-law Pam Pietan of Mankato; sister-in-law Ethel Reistad of Waterville; brother-in-law Norman Pietan of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin W. Pietan; step-son Mike Pietan; four sisters, Margaret (Bennie) Lee, Mildred (Weldon) Cutting, Nora (Leonard) Jepson, and Gladys (Hartwick) Thompson; five brothers, infants Milnon and Kenneth, Ed (Lillian) Reistad, Ted Reistad, and Maynard (Ester) Reistad; and in-laws, Nina and Warren Musser.
