Lake Mills won the 10-team North Butler Invitational on Saturday.

The No. 4 Bulldogs finished with 184 total points, while Nashua-Plainfield earned second with 173.

“It was a huge goal of ours to win an invitational this season,” Lake Mills head coach Alex Brandenburg said. “We have won three or four dual tournaments during my five years here, but haven’t won a tournament where wrestlers were individually bracketed.”

The semifinal round was key to the win, as Lake Mills placed eight kids in the finals and jumped out to a 33 point lead over Nashua-Plainfield. The Huskies would make up major ground on the backside of the brackets, but Lake Mills was able to hold on and edge them by 11 points in the final standings.

“We had a pretty good day to overall, but the semifinal round was our best,” Brandenburg said, “To get eight wrestlers in the finals is an excellent accomplishment.”

Noah Greenfield, Andy Dahle, Jon Erickson and Andrew Olsen were crowned champions. Greenfield, Erickson and Olsen each won their first tournament ever. Erickson and Dahle both defeated ranked wrestlers in the finals. Lincoln Boehmer, Brady Schmidt, Ben Irons and Andy Nicholson also reached the finals and placed second.
