Roe v. Wade turns 40 tomorrow

Jan. 22 will mark the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision by the Supreme Court, which legalized abortion on demand in our nation. Since then, we have witnessed a holocaust of more than 55 million unborn babies killed — more than half of these were girls. Talk about a war on women!

Recently our nation felt the devastation wrought by a killer in Newtown, Conn., who senselessly murdered 26 innocent people including 20 young children. The late Mother Teresa of Calcutta once commented, “If a nation can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”

Mother Teresa got it. She understood perfectly that there is a connection between a society that accepts, legalizes and protects the violence of abortion to what can happen in places like Newtown, Aurora, Colo., or Littleton, Colo.

She continued, “America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father’s role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts — a child — as a competitor, an intrusion and an inconvenience.”

These words spoken by Mother Teresa more than 20 years ago were prophetic and we are seeing the rotten fruits of what Planned Parenthood and its ilk continues to call “choice.” Last year alone, Planned Parenthood received $542 million of your dollars to help fund their abortion mills. They were responsible for a quarter of all abortions performed in the U.S. Shameful!

Let us pause today in silent prayer for an end to the culture of death and how we can become a society that once again welcomes and reveres all life as sacred. Let us work together to build a civilization of love that holds life, marriage and family in the highest regard.
