Tony Diaz, 80, of Albert Lea, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 1721 Bay Oaks Drive, Albert Lea.
Tony was born May 11, 1932, near the border of Kiester and Scarville, Iowa, to John and Macaila (Gallardo) Diaz.
He was united in marriage to Goody (Platt) Diaz Nov. 29, 1975, in Wells, and the couple lived there for seven years before moving to Albert Lea in 1982.
Tony worked for Wilson & Co. for 30 years in several positions.
He was a member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed watching birds and listening to music.
He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July of 2009 and sealed his marriage to Goody on Nov. 2, 2012, at the St. Paul temple.
Tony is survived by his wife, Goody; brothers, Barney (Lorretta) Diaz, and Frank Sr. (Kathy) Diaz, all of Wells; sisters, Carmen (Bruce) Stenhovden of Albert Lea and Mary (Verlyn) Thompson of Hoyt Lake; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Ruth Armbrust, Lue McCrite and Jo Smidt; three brothers-in-law Lee Zehm, Ray Erwin and Danny Hale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Macaila Diaz; brothers Jesse and Joe Diaz; sisters Vera and Juanita Diaz; nephews Mousey and John; nieces Angela, Amy and Jasmine; mother-in-law Esther Zehm; father-in-law Charles Platt Sr.; brothers-in-law John (Beep Beep) Smidt, Bill McCrite, Gordon Armbrust, Charles Platt Jr. and Dave Platt.
The family wishes to thank the dialysis staff at HealthReach for all the care they gave Tony. He loved each one of them.
He was appreciative of great-niece Melissa Redig who cared for his feet.
A thank you also to his dialysis family — all of those who are still living and those who already passed — and to all of the neighbors at Senior Court who were more like family.
