Adeline “Cissie” Carpenter, 86, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in Tempe, Ariz. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Dawn) Carpenter of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Kyle (Shelley) Carpenter of Edina; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Lorraine Christensen, of Albert Lea.
Born in raised in Albert Lea by parents Elmer and Ovedia Matthies, Cissie married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Carpenter, and proceeded to live in several cities across the United States during Lyle’s long career with Buick division of General Motors. They returned to Albert Lea in the mid ’70s as co-owners of the Motor Inn Company, a General Motors and Honda dealership. They retired to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1985, where Lyle passed away in 2005.
Cissie is fondly remembered for her style, grace, sense of humor and love of anything pink. A voracious reader and student of history she would often surprise people with her grasp of details and her depth of insight about current events around the world. But, she is most remembered as a kind, caring and loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and for the wonderful example of married life that she and Lyle provided throughout their nearly 60 years together.
A memorial service will be at noon Feb. 16 at Christ Prebyterian Church in Edina. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C., 20090-6011.
