Arvilla Clemmetson, 89, Emmons

Arvilla H. Clemmetson, 89, of Emmons, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
A memorial service for Arvilla will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, with the Rev. Cathi Braasch and the Rev. Christopher Martin officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Emmons, with military honors conducted by the Louis/Tviete Post No. 317.
The family will greet friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time today.
Arvilla Harriet Clemmetson was born on March 10, 1923, in Emmons, to parents Curtis and Jeanette (Randall) Clemmetson. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmons Lutheran Church. Arvilla attended and graduated from Emmons High School, and following graduation, worked at the Emmons Leader as a clerk and typist.
On June 2, 1943, in the Bronx, N.Y., Arvilla was inducted into the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II. She was honorably discharged on Sept. 28, 1945, at Santa Ana, Calif.
Following her service, Arvilla became a student at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. She received her master’s degree and worked as a librarian and teacher in the Blooming Prairie School District. While she worked, Arvilla usually came home to Emmons on the weekends, and after her retirement, she moved back to Emmons in 1988. She kept active with church circle, volunteered with the Emmons library, and enjoyed reading, collecting books and wrote columns for the Women’s Veterans of Minnesota.
Arvilla battled cancer and eventually became a resident of St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea where she passed peacefully on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013.
Survivors include her brother, Richard (Patricia) Clemmetson of Goodyear, Ariz.; three nieces, Caron (Ronald) Martin of Litchfield Park, Ariz., Cynthia (Gerry) Parris and their two sons Joshua Parris and Daniel Parris of Peoria, Ariz., and Sherri Clemmetson of Goodyear, Ariz.; as well as special cousins, Elinor (Gordon) Johnson of Flagstaff, Ariz., Dianne (Tom) Wangen of Chandler, Ariz., and Ronald (JoAnn) Hall of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an uncle Carrol Clemmetson.
