Shirley Sorenson, 77, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Sorenson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. George Marin will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Shirley died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley Ann Sorenson was born on Nov. 24, 1935, to Selmer and Arvilla (Larson) Erdahl near Frost. Shirley grew up near Frost and graduated from high school in Rake, Iowa. After high school she attended and graduated from the Mankato Business College. On Sept. 6, 1958, she was united in marriage to Carroll (Bud) Sorenson at the South Blue Earth Lutheran Church near Bricelyn. She was an active member of Grace Christian Church. For many years Shirley worked at Scottsman’s in Albert Lea. More recently Shirley worked as a certified nursing assistant at Good Samaritan Society and Oak Park Place. Shirley enjoyed fellowship with her many friends. She was active with her bible study circle. Most of all Shirley enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Scott Sorenson of Albert Lea, daughter Robin Faith of Mukwonago, Wis.; grandchildren Ashleigh Faith of Milwaukee, Wis., and Brandon Faith of Mukwonago; sisters, Gelaine Cody of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Susan (Don) Faith of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Janice Erdahl and Solveig Erdahl; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll, brothers Stuart Erdahl, Burton Erdahl and David Erdahl; sisters, Violet (Henry) Geerdes and Charlotte (Palmer) Peterson.
