A vehicle reported stolen Saturday morning from Albert Lea was recovered in Worth County minutes later after the teenage boys who allegedly stole it crashed.
Albert Lea Police Department Lt. Jeff Strom said the 2009 Nissan four-door was reported stolen at 7:41 a.m. Saturday from the 1000 block of West Clark Street. The vehicle had been left running in the driveway.
At 7:51 a.m., police received a call of a rollover west of 493rd Avenue and 510th Street in Worth County.
The teenagers reportedly fled from the vehicle across a field where they were apprehended by Iowa State Patrol troopers and Worth County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Strom said a 14-year-old boy was arrested and a 16-year-old boy was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for a leg injury. He was unsure about the extent of the damages to the vehicle.
He advised people to be cautious about leaving their vehicles running, even in their own driveways.
