MINNEAPOLIS — A Brooklyn Park woman is suing a pain clinic for using contaminated steroids linked to a nationwide meningitis outbreak last year.

Traci Maccoux’s lawsuit is the first against Medical Advanced Pain Specialists in connection with the outbreak. The clinic was one of two in Minnesota that bought contaminated steroids from New England Compounding Center, which has since filed for bankruptcy.

The 23-year-old Maccoux was hospitalized for 10 days last October after she developed fungal meningitis. She had received steroid shots for pain in July and August. The lawsuit, filed in Hennepin County, alleges the clinic was negligent in using the steroids.
