Family faces fatal tragedy twice
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released the name of the 2-year-old boy who died Friday in a farm equipment accident in rural Hartland.
The boy, Benjamin “Bennie” Albert Fenton, of rural Matawan, is the son of Albert and Shelley Fenton.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Benjamin’s father was using a Bobcat skid loader to move snow for a friend at 32603 670th Ave., northwest of Hartland, when Benjamin was struck in the head with the arm controlling the bucket of the skid loader.
First responders with the Sheriff’s Office, the Hartland Fire Department, New Richland Ambulance and Gold Cross Ambulance attempted to resuscitate the boy, but he ultimately died at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
The Ramsey Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined the boy’s injuries were consistent with the father’s statements and the scene.
This is the second tragedy for the family in less than three years.
In June of 2010, their 13-year-old son, Dylan Johnson, was backing out of his driveway on an ATV when he was struck by a grain truck, according to reports.
He died a week later at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester from injuries.
