BYRON — A benefit in honor of a southeastern Minnesota teenager killed in a traffic crash has been expanded to help her family who this week lost its furniture business in a fire.

The May 5 benefit was organized to raise money for a scholarship in the name of Deej Logan, a 17-year-old killed on the first day of her senior year at Byron High School last September. The scholarship is to be awarded at her classmates’ graduation this spring.

On Tuesday, fire destroyed Logan’s Furniture, north of Byron. The family business sold hand-made furniture. Fire officials say the building and equipment is a total loss.

Benefit organizer, Bob Eustice said the Logan family is devastated, both emotionally and financially. He says the fundraiser will now be in honor of DJ and in support of her family.
