Lane Bice, 84, Alden

Memorial Services for Lane “Joe” Nathan Bice will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Lane died peacefully at his home on Monday, March 18, 2013. He was 84.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1928, in Freeborn, the son of John and Lora (Johnson) Bice. Joe, as he was known, graduated from Freeborn High School with the class of 1946. He joined the United States Air Force in August of 1946, serving until his honorable discharge in September of 1953. He married Lois E. Morgan in April 28, 1956, at Grace Lutheran Church in Alden. They had lived in Alden, then in Albert Lea for a short time before making the Morgan home farm in rural Alden their home. Joe had worked at Streater in the drafting department, sold for Moormans Feed, and then was a rural mail carrier for more than 20 years before his retirement. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he had served as Sunday school teacher for several years. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to the casino, rides in the country side and visiting with family and friends.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Lois; brother, Larry Bice and his wife Gloriann of Brooklyn Park; sister-in-law, Margery Bice of Mankato; brothers-in-law, LeRoy Morgan of Conger, Donald Morgan and his wife Gladys of Rose Creek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Zane Bice and his wife Millie, Fay Bice; sister, Shirley and her husband Lawrence Conklin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell Morgan, Harvey and Bertie Morgan, Marvel and Alvin Farris, Mavis and Ivan Farris, Donald and Darlene Fischer and Carol Morgan.
