Minnesota’s Bougard tops heptathlon standings

AUSTIN, Texas — Duke’s Curtis Beach led the decathlon after the first five events Tuesday in the Texas Relays, and Minnesota’s Erica Bougard topped the heptathlon standings.
Beach had 4,219 points, winning the long jump at 24 feet, 10 inches and the 400 meters in 48.21 seconds.
Texas-Arlington’s Romain Martin was second at 3,985, followed by defending champion Issac Murphy of Texas at 3,978.
Bougard won the 100 hurdles, high jump and 200 en route to a four-event total of 3,570. Arkansas’ Makeba Alcide was second at 3,480, followed by Texas A&M’s Annie Kunz at 3,471.
