Memorial services for Ronald Gene Turbett of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of the Twin Cities, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Assembly Area 4.

Ron was born Feb. 18, 1956, in Albert Lea to Dale and Helen (Thompson) Turbett. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and Dunwoody Technical College. He married Sheryl Hove and from this union came two sons, Matt and Jon. The couple later divorced. Ron was united in marriage to Barb Lorey in 1999. Ron died Nov. 8, 2012, at his home in Glendale. He was 56 years old.

Ron was employed as an auto mechanic and for several years in the printing industry. He later worked as an over-the-road truck driver and security guard. Ron had nearly 30 years of military service in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard. He retired from the military in 2006 after serving in Kosovo under the KFOR mandate.

Ron enjoyed working on cars and trucks, football, collecting Coke memorabilia, boating on the Mississippi, spending time with his boys and grandchildren and being in the guard.

Ron is survived by his wife, Barb; sons, Matthew (Stephenie) and Jonathan (special friend Amanda Munnell) both of Burnsville; step-daughter, Lindsey Smith of Glendale; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith of Glendale and Emma Turbett of Burnsville; brother, Donald (Karen) Turbett of East Bethel; sister-in-law, Judy Turbett (died on Nov. 30, 2012) and nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his brother, Mark Turbett.

Memorials can be made in Ron’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, support.woundedwarriorproject.org, or to Hospice of the Valley, hov.org. For many, Ron will be remembered each time one sees a can of diet Coke and a chocolate chip cookie — his favorites. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for all their care and support.
