50 years ago – 1963

• Results for the Albert Lea High School team at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament included Mike Callahan winning the 120-pound title. Mike defeated Dave Ness of Red Wing 5-0 in the first round, Gary Alexander of Hopkins 5-3 in the second round, Hank Cram 5-4 in the semifinal round and Don Mullenbach of Stewartville by a referee’s decision in the championship match. Gary Neist finished in third place at 95 pounds, and Mike Roberts placed fourth at heavyweight.

• In the West Sub-District No.2 Basketball Tournament, Glenville High School defeated Freeborn in double overtime 56-55. Mike Feruson scored 33 points for Glenville. Glenville entered the tournament with a regular season record of 1-17. Blooming Prairie defeated Emmons 66-45. Gary Moeykens scored 17 points and Don Curtin, 21, for Bloomig Prairie. Emmons was led by Bob Berg with 17 points. Blooming Prairie won the West Sub-District Title with a 66-45 victory over Glenville.

25 years ago – 1988

• Results in the Albert Lea City Womens’ Bowling Tournament included Class A team champion Peoble Photo. Team members were Sue Nielsen, Marion Hogstad, Sharon Johnson and Judy Enderson. The Class B team champion was the Go Go Getters. Team members were Kathy Gregerson, Linda Johnson, Jackie Anderson and Sandy Chapman. The all-events winner was Marion Houge. The singles winner was Nancy Bellrichard.

• Results for the ALHS wrestling team at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament included the following: Kevin Schlitz won the 167-pound title and finished the season with a reord of 34-0. Al Mullenbach at 138 pounds placed second, Alex Skaar at 145 pounds placed third, David Rowe tied for fifth place at 138 pounds and Alex Wangen finished seventh at 105 pounds.

10 years ago – 2003

• Jesse Ryerson, a 1999 graduate of Glenville-Emmons High School and a senior at Luther College, qualified for the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Tournament.

• Results at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament: Class AAA, ALHS, Adam Elseth at 135 pounds finished in second place and Josh Hansen at 112 pounds placed fourth. Class A, United South Central, Josh Niebuhr at 145 pounds placed second, Steven Wood placed third at 189 pounds and Kenny Sandt placed fifth at 119 pounds. New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Kaleb Jacobson finished sixth at 171 pounds.
