Westerlund earns trip to championship match

ST. PAUL — Triston Westerlund of Albert Lea is headed to the state championship. He won by decision over Sam Moeller of Rosemount. The score was tied at zero after the first period. With 30 seconds left in the second period, Triston went on the offensive building a 4-1 lead. An escape by Moeller cut his deficit to two points, and a late takedown shaved Westerlund’s lead to one point.
Dylan Herman of United South Central lost by fall with 25 seconds left in the third period. The match was tied at zero before the pin. Colten Carlson of United South Central lost a 6-4 decision to Patrick Rooney of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. Carlson took his first lead of the match with 1:15 left in the second period on a takedown. He extended his lead to two points (4-2) with another takedown. However, with 48 seconds left in the third period, Rooney earned a near fall to take a 6-4 lead and get the win.
