The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team improved its overall record to 3-2 Friday with a sweep of Blue Earth.
The Tigers earned their second sweep of the season. In the season opener, Albert Lea dismantled New Prague 7-0.
The Tigers dominated each match against Blue Earth.
“We were definitely the stronger and more experienced team,” Albert Lea head coach Tom Dyrdal said. “The challenge for us was to try to keep our play at a high level to maintain the momentum we’d gained from matches against Mankato East and West.”
Trevor and Taylor Herfindahl started singles action by winning their matches by a combined score of 24-4. Darik Weigel continued the Tiger’s winning ways, and Collin Yahnke shut out his opponent 12-0.
The doubles teams of Kyle Zogg/Carter Dahl, Josh Martin/Cole Keyeski and Tanner Shaft/Andy Woitas won by a combined score of 36-4.
“The guys stayed focused and played well,” Dyrdal said. “It was a nice win and a pleasure to play in sunshine and 72 degrees.”
Next, Albert Lea plays at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Faribault.
