County awards $8M in projects

Freeborn County commissioners on Tuesday awarded more than $8 million in contracts for road and bridge projects slated for this summer.
All projects are expected to be completed between May and September.
The following contracts were awarded:
• A $4.8 million contract to Ulland Bros. Inc. for bituminous surface, bituminous overlay and shoulder replacement on County Road 5 from County Road 18 to U.S. Highway 65 in Glenville, County Road 12 from County Road 17 to County Road 46 in Conger, and County Road 26 from County Road 13 near Glenville to County 46 near Hayward.
The engineer’s estimate was about $5.5 million.
• A $1.57 million contract to Ulland Bros. Inc. for bituminous mill and overlay and shoulder replacement on County Road 22 from Interstate 90 to County 25.
The engineer’s estimate was about $1.77 million.
• A $318,000 contract to Minnowa Construction of Harmony for the construction of a bridge on County 79, north of the Iowa state line. The bridge is four miles southwest of Glenville.
About $282,000 will be paid for through a state transportation grant.
The engineer’s estimate was about $402,000.
• A $329,000 contract to Minnowa Construction for the construction of a bridge on County 9, four miles directly south of Conger.
About $212,000 will be paid for through a state transportation grant.
The engineer’s estimate was about $417,000.
• A $284,000 contract to Sorensen Bros. to replace a bridge with a culvert on County 4, about two miles west and one mile south of Conger.
About $197,000 will be paid for through a state funding.
The engineer’s estimate was about $296,000.
• An $89,000 contract to Sorensen Bros. to replace a culvert on County 33, about three miles north and three miles west of Freeborn.
About $55,000 will be paid for through a state transportation grant. The engineer’s estimate was $107,000.
• A $79,000 contract to Sorensen Bros. for the removal and replacement of a culvert on County 33, about 1 1/4 miles west of Hartland.
About $51,000 will be paid for through a state funding.
The engineer’s estimate was about $87,000.
• A $96,000 contract to Sorensen Bros. for the replacement of a culvert on County 34, four miles east and two miles north of Myrtle.
About $59,000 will be paid for through state funding.
The engineer’s estimate was about $123,000.
• A $271,000 contract to Morris Sealcoat & Trucking Inc. for seal coating on a series of county roads.
The engineer’s estimate was about $277,000.
• A $129,000 contract to AAA Striping Service for road striping.
The engineer’s estimate was about $130,000.
• A $174,000 contract to Ulland Bros. for aggregate surfacing.
The engineer’s estimate was about $225,000.
• A $75,000 contract to Freeborn County Co-op for base stabilization with magnesium chloride.
The engineer’s estimate was about $80,000.
