Evelyn Larsen, 93, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Evelyn N. Larsen will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.

Evelyn Larsen died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 93 years old.

Evelyn Norma Helle Westrum Larsen was born on April 7, 1920, in Freeborn County. The daughter of John and Gena (Hafstad) Helle, she attended Albert Lea High School and graduated in 1938. After graduation she attended nursing school for one year and worked for Dr. Lyon in Albert Lea. She moved to California and worked in the airplane hangars during World War II and on May 7, 1944, she married Milton Westrum in Las Vegas, Nev. Together they had three daughters. After marriage they moved back to Glenville. Milton passed away in 1950 and in 1953 the family moved in to Albert Lea from the family farm. In 1972 she married Carl Larsen.

Evelyn worked for Dickema Construction in the office for many years. She and Carl were members of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, and her faith was very strong. She loved taking walks, crafts and crocheting. She was the perfect mother and was always loving and supportive of her family.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Carl, of Albert Lea; daughters, Kathy (Bob) McBride of Owatonna and Karen (Don “Butch”) Bartell of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeff (Janet) McBride of Elko, Matt (Julie) McBride of Minnetonka and Julie McBride of Burnsville; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mollie, Meghan, Ben and Irina; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Gena; first husband, Milton; daughter, Judy; parents in law, Odin and Dorothy Westrum; and sisters, Pearl (Jay) Andersen and Arlene Mason.
