Habitat for Humanity-Freeborn/Mower is currently recruiting a year-long VISTA member to join the global movement to build simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need.

The Freeborn/Mower affiliate was selected as one of 11 statewide to host 2013-2014 VISTA members. The position will research and evaluate the current partner family selection process, recommend and develop new processes and policies and work with the Family Selection Committee.

The goal is to increase the number of families served by boosting community awareness of Habitat’s Homeownership and A Brush with Kindness programs and growing the number of qualified applicants. This position includes extensive leadership and professional development training that prepares the VISTA member for a future nonprofit or public service career.

VISTA members spend 12 months getting hands-on experience, working with Habitat staff, volunteers, applicants and partner families. Yearlong VISTA members gain functional knowledge of key elements in affordable housing and gain leadership and community outreach skills.

“Having a VISTA member working at our affiliate will increase our ability to serve more families in Mower and Freeborn counties, and for that, we couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Brigitte Campbell, executive director of Habitat’s local chapter.
