MINNEAPOLIS — One of two convicted con artists who walked away from a minimum-security prison camp in Duluth now faces a federal escape indictment.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said 64-year-old Michael Krzyzaniak of Minneapolis recently was indicted after six days on the run.

Krzyzaniak was indicted on one count of escape from custody.

Krzyzaniak and Gerald Greenfield were discovered missing from the prison camp on March 30. The pair was arrested April 5 at a Burnsville motel after investigators got a tip.

If convicted, Krzyzaniak faces a potential maximum penalty of five years in federal prison, which may be tacked onto the sentence he already is serving. Greenfield has not been indicted.

Krzyzaniak’s attorney, federal public defender Andrew Mohring, declined comment Wednesday.
