AUSTIN — The driver of a reported stolen truck crashed into the porch of an Austin home Wednesday morning.

According to the Austin Police Department’s initial reports, an Albert Lea Police officer found a 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada in the ditch with a broken windshield and windows shortly after 1 a.m. in Albert Lea. Police later learned that vehicle was stolen from Austin.

A 1998 Chevy pickup was later reported stolen from Albert Lea and involved in a high-speed chase before 4 a.m. The chase started at Kwik Trip on Fourth Street Northwest in Austin before the driver crashed into an Austin home at Seventh Street and Fifth Avenue SW. Concrete steps underneath the porch stopped the car from going inside the home.

Albert Lea Police Lt. Darren Hanson said officers didn’t know the truck had been missing until they received a call from Austin police at 4:25 a.m. Hanson says there is a possibility the abandoned car is connected to a stolen pickup discovered in Austin Wednesday morning.

The Austin Police Department would not release information on whether anyone was arrested. Both agencies are investigating the case.
