The United South Central baseball team began the season by beating Randolph 12-2 on Friday.
David Stenzel led the Rebels from the mound. He threw for four innings, struck out five batters and allowed one hit and one walk.
Steve Voigt was the closer, and he struck out one batter.
Stenzel also led USC from the plate. He was two-of-three with two doubles and 4 RBIs. Voigt added a double and three RBIs.
“We hit the ball well with eight hits,” USC head coach Pat Frank said.
Randolph had a formidable team with seven returning letter winners, but the Rebels built a lead by minimizing their mistakes.
“The biggest thing I looked at was that we only had one error,” Frank said. “That’s good for early season baseball.”
Next, USC plays at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at 5 p.m. Monday.
