FREEBORN — Freeborn resident Linda Schultz-Nelson decided to utilize her spare time and numerous ideas to create a business which the entire community can prosper from.
“Ever since I was in high school and my parents owned and operated the hardware store in Alden, I knew I someday wanted to open my own business,” said Schultz-Nelson.
The business, Lin’s New & Softly Used Treasures, will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. “After the grand opening, the business hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” she said.
Schultz-Nelson’s business sells new and used items, as well as an eBay consignment shop, with final intentions of consolidating the entire business into a total eBay consignment sales business.
“Even though the eBay consignment sales will be the final intention of having the store open for business, I believe the eBay sales will be the most distinct feature for customers that want to sell unique items but do not want to become an eBay seller themselves,” she said. “My ideas continued growing and the business will be the home to many more items, with the purpose to suit the needs or wants of the entire community.”
According to Schultz-Nelson, she will take some items on consignment in not only the used portion of her store, but in the new section from people who do homemade items as well.
“It has taken a vision of what exactly it was that I wanted for my business and lots of advice and help from my parents and friends has helped me get started,” she said. “I am really looking forward to the camaraderie with other business owners. Also, being a business owner in a small town, the relationships with other business owners are so important, as well as the personal relationships as a friend is what I hope for with my customers.”
Lin’s New & Softly Used Treasures offers goods such as Marilyn Monroe items, Vikings clothing and memorabilia, women’s fashions, jewelry, home and garden products, wine accessories, gift items, some antiques, toys and household items.
“The coffee will always be on during open business hours, and there will always be room to sit and enjoy a cup with your friends,” said Schultz-Nelson. “Feel free to stop by anytime and see what I have to offer to you, your friends or your family.”
Lin’s New & Softly Used Treasures is at 806 Park St. in Freeborn, attached to her home. The phone number is 507-383-1709.
