The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva softball team’s season ended Tuesday with a 5-4 loss to Bethlehem Academy.
“We knew it was going to be close,” NRHEG head coach Wendy Schultz said. “We beat them by one run the other two times we played them.”
The Panthers beat the Cardinals at home 6-5 and 7-6 in a doubleheader during the regular season, but Bethlehem Academy got revenge in the postseason.
In the fifth inning with the bases loaded Bethlehem Academy’s Caity Angell cleared the bases to give the Cardinals a one-run lead, Schultz said.
The Panthers managed to get runners into scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, but they couldn’t manage to score any runs.
NRHEG’s Anna Lundberg pitched seven innings. She struck out six batters and allowed three walks.
Overall, NRHEG finished 9-5, and the Panthers were 7-3 in the Gopher Conference.
“Overall, I think our girls had a good season,” Schultz said. “They never gave up and always worked hard in practice and at games. I’m proud of the way they played.”
