Funeral services for John Paul Hohansee will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

John died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

John Paul Hohansee was born June 19, 1942, to Paul E. and Luella (Hubner) Hohansee in rural Freeborn. He grew up in Freeborn and graduated from school in Freeborn. On June 10, 1967, John was united in marriage to Susan Kay Pierce at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. John worked at Herters in New Richland, Geneva Hardware Store, ValuMart Marine and most recently he was self-employed at Geneva Snapper. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and talking about the “old days and the good old times.” He loved going up north and spending time on the Big Fork River. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Lori (Tom) Leeman, Jodie (Chad) Lindell, Kari (Jeremy) Hohansee and Amy (Shannon) Vandersyde; grandchildren, Kristin (Corey) Johnson, Kyle, Marissa, Michelle, Alisha (Shawn) Groeneweg, Taran, David, Mikayla, Staci (Nicholas) Hinnenkamp, Tonya, Delaney, Madison and Makenzie; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Andilynn and Mason; mother, Luella Raiman; mother-in-law, Helen Pierce; siblings, Joyce (Larry) Reeder, James (Laureen) Hohansee and Margaret (David) Sindt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hohansee; father-in-law, Franklin Pierce; son-in-law, Andrew Waalkens; brother-in-law and close friend, Norman Lund; and three brothers in infancy.
